Happy Sunday, dear friends!
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend and are ready for the week ahead! In the past few weeks, Wild Man’s reading has improved by leaps and bounds. He’s even reading bedtime stories these days. This voracious reader Mama is loving it. This week we are sharing five books we love, the kindergarten edition. These books are beautifully written and illustrated and make kids and adults happy.
“What Do you Do With an Idea?” follows the story of a child who has an idea, nurtures it and sends it out into the world. This book makes my heart sing and eyes well with tears. The storyline is easy to follow and fun to read with a deep and lasting message that kids and adults will love.
“The Most Magnificent Thing” is a story of perseverance and perspective. In this book, a young girl and her dog set out to make the most magnificent thing but make something entirely different instead. They struggle with frustration, anger and sadness. In the end, perspective and perseverance save the day and they do create the most magnificent thing. This book encourages imaginative play and addresses important emotions in the creative process. We couldn’t love it more.
“Rosie Revere, Engineer” loves to build and create for her family and friends until an uncle unexpectedly laughs at the gift she made for him. Rosie is heartbroken. She continues to dream up ideas but doesn’t create until an engineer aunt encourages her. This book has a great lesson for kids about doing what you love and also has a great lesson for adults about being careful with your words.
Wild Man is obsessed with the Caldecott Medal and thinks this book deserves two! “Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11” is the true story of the Apollo mission. The words fly off the page and the illustrations beautifully depict the race to the moon. The first time we read it, I warned the kids that we didn’t have time to read the whole book and would finish it the next night. We were all so entranced that I blew past the half-way point and raced to the end without even realizing it. This book inspires and captivates readers of all ages.
It wouldn’t be a Wild Man list if it didn’t include a silly book. “Dragons Love Tacos” is just that – a silly romp through a world where dragons love tacos, but spicy salsa makes them sneeze fire. This book makes us all laugh until our sides hurt. This book is just the thing to turn around a bad day and bring some joy to your life. After all, who doesn’t love tacos?
